Sleep is the only thing that happened yesterday. I did try to be productive yesterday. I would get out of bed, sit at the desk, look at things that probably needed to be done… and then toss a blanket around my shoulders and go back to bed. Between the rain and the chemo, there was no “winning” yesterday. Even going out with the dogs was exhausting and painful.
Probably the most energy I put into anything came when G decided that he was going to take his umbrella and go for a walk in the rain. At the moment of his decision, it was a mild, summer rain so I didn’t see any harm in him going for a stroll. He was trying to get his steps in for the day. However, a few minutes after he left, the skies opened up and it began to pour. My body was begging me to go back to bed, but I also know that the creek is one of G’s favorite places to hang out. If that’s where he was, the current downpour could create a situation where he would need help. I couldn’t go to bed not knowing he was safe.
So, I put on the most rain-proof thing I own: my old black leather duster. You know, 40 pounds worth of coat that doesn’t let anything get through. My body sagged a little under the weight. I headed out into the rain, got out past the gate, and here came G. He was easy to spot even through the rain. No one else was out and no one else had an umbrella as large as his. He was perfectly safe. Still, I walked across the street and met him just to let him know I wasn’t going to risk leaving him stranded. He then ran ahead of me so he could get inside.
Sigh.
We were blessed with a gift of groceries yesterday, so I fixed bacon and tomato sandwiches for Tipper and me. G still had leftovers from Wednesday night that needed to be eaten. My evening glucose is still too high, well above 200, which isn’t good. There has to be some way of getting that number down without either starving myself or submitting my body to gastronomic pain. I’m not a big fan of either choice. Kat’s heart rate is still an issue as well and there doesn’t seem to be a damn thing we can do until she sees a doctor in September.
There doesn’t seem to be a lot of chance of rain in the next few days. The little pocket down in Southwest Missouri is almost certainly going to miss us. The air was muggy and there was fog across the North 40 when I took the dogs out this morning. We’ll see if we need to do any mowing by Sunday.
Ignoring all the nonsense over Biden’s name mixup last night (let’s see the Felon talk coherently for over 30 minutes, he’s never done it!), I’m finding it interesting that, in Japan adult diapers are outselling baby diapers as their population gets older. Dollar General proves why regulation is necessary with a $12 million fine for workplace safety violations. Remember, corporations will try cutting as many corners as possible if it will save them a dime. Oh, and those cheap clothes you like to buy from Chinese sources? The real cost is 26 million tons of clothing end up in China’s landfills each year, propelled by fast fashion. Most of that is in synthetic fabrics that can’t be recycled. Please, delete those Shein and Temu apps.
Enjoy this summer, friends. We could be in a stark recession by this time next year.
