Indianapolis, Indiana is a thriving, growing, bustling city. Why, I’m not certain. Personally, I’ve lived better places. Once Indy gets its hooks in you, though, leaving is difficult. So, we deal with the horrible zoning laws, the inconceivable racism, the anti-intellectualism, and the ass-backward approach to cultural development and preservation, and look for the things that are interesting and beautiful in their own way. Occasionally. Between rants.
Downtown Indianapolis is going through a massive building boom. Never mind that they’re building more high-priced (gentrified) apartments without the supporting businesses (such as grocery stores) to maintain viability, or any allowance for the increased congestion, nor any serious effort to address homelessness in the area. There are new buildings popping up all over downtown, changing the landscape, and creating new shadows where once the sun shone.
We took a walk through some of those shadows, taking pictures along the way. Here are a few of the observations we found interesting.
