Once again, we come to the Holiday Season, a deeply religious time that each of us observes, in his own way, by going to the mall of his choice.—Dave Barry
Okay, so we had one last set of photographs before the year ends. There’s a limited chance I could squeeze in one other as well, but probably not. Haley seems like quite an excellent choice for a final holiday-themed post, though none of the photos actually have a damn thing to do with the holidays.
Haley is one of our favorite people not only to have in front of the camera but just as much when she’s here hanging out with us. A free spirit that eschews any stereotypical labeling, Haley is one of those people who creates smiles and laughter for those around her, even if she’s not necessarily feeling all that well herself. If everyone we photographed were as charming and engaging as Haley, perhaps I wouldn’t be quite so grouchy all the time.
Finding the holiday spirit seems to be challenging this year. There is no litany of holiday music playing in an endless loop. As warm as it’s been this week, we’ve not broken out the hot cocoa. Instead of carolers singing outside our door, we hear sirens. Rather than wrapping presents, we’re chasing receivables more than 30 days past due. While some are out enjoying holiday parties with friends, I put children to bed and worry about Kat making the commute between here and school. We’ve not even put up a tree for the cats to knock over.
Where we find the holiday spirit this year is in friends, like Haley, who aren’t afraid to engage even on the rough days; those who actually respond to messages and are not looking for a contribution to their latest pyramid scheme. We find the holiday spirit in people like our mail carrier who always smiles and has a cheerful greeting despite the fact we’re at the end of her route and one can see the fatigue in her eyes. We find the holiday spirit in pictures shared by friends and family whose challenges are just as great, if not more so, than ours but they still make an effort to find a smile.
So, as our holiday present to you, we share these pictures of our friend Haley in the hopes that the fun we had making them brings some level of happiness to your day. Enjoy.
