Charles' plans for the first half of the year currently involve two major projects focusing on particular points of artistic and social relevance.
"Reconstructing Horst" is an academic endeavor closely examining the lighting style of the late Horst P. Horst. Long considered the father of early fashion photography and a master of lighting, charles explores how Host's styles and methods translate and are useful in the world of modern digital photography. The project does not seek to re-create any of Horst's works, but to demonstrate the ongoing viability and challenges of the style.
"Surreal Reality" is a multi-series art project exploring how the horrors of modern reality become fodder for sleepless nights and bothersome dreams. Pulling from current social topics ranging from economics to education, employment and politics, each short series progresses through topics in ways that, while perhaps alarming and disturbing on one level, may still be more mild than the reality they represent.
charles is also considering other shorter works and remains open to commissioned pieces for more common topics.
We appreciate and look forward to hearing from you. Whether you are interested in photography through Captured Light Studios or the art work of Charles I. Letbetter, we are anxious to talk with you.
